Aladdin – Prince Ali

From my favourite Disney composer, Alan Menken, is one the most cleverly composed pieces in Aladdin.

So many great key changes, chord progressions, orchestration, humourous lyrics – it’s just a perfect film composition; one that I wish I wrote.

A great slow introduction, then to celebrate the key change at 00:40 secs the piece suddenly speeds up, and continues to do so.

But my absolute favourite bit has to be from the polyphony at 1:37 with the backing singers beautiful intertwining with Robin Williams and harmonising wonderfully at 1:52/1:53. This leads into the chorus which leads to the grand key change at 2:18 with beautiful ritenuto to emphasise.

Alan Menken has one of the coolest jobs ever.
