Unkle – Heaven

This track is the second from the Hold My Hand E.P. by Unkle released in 2007 and later on the End Titles – Stories for Film released last year. Unkle is my second favourite trip-hop artist to DJ Shadow – a artist who was a major influence in opening my mind up to the limitless genres of music and what can be done with them in terms of sampling, remixing and essentially, pastiching.

Heaven is a beautiful track. It’s a dreamy one; it’s ambiguous; it’s unpredictable; it’s one you can imagine being played in a room full of drugs; it’s one people would have sex to in the dark; it’s got a bit of everything. Even a great video.

It really affects me at 00:53 when a backing vocal enters and literally sends shivers up my spine. It sits so well behind the electric guitar and the dreamy synth sounds. It so randomly enters and then doesn’t return for another 4 minutes until 4:37. This piece is 7 minutes of magic.
