Ojos De Brujo – Todo Tiende

This was without a doubt my track of last year. I went Ojos De Brujo crazy and bought all their CDs, DVDs, remixes; I couldn’t get enough of them. I think this track from their most mainstream album Techari epitomises their unique sound which combines a plethora of influences from both the West and East – hip hop, bhangra, flamenco, Catalan rumba, gypsy, Egyptian – the list goes on. Their new album Aocaná was released in April earlier this year

The best part from me begins from a completely unexpected triplet at 1:28. This introduces a really grooving bhangra beat over some Spanish rapping (with another great triplet being played on the drums at 1:40) which really speeds up at 1:52 and finally leads into the exceptionally groovy and powerful chorus at 2:05 (if you hadn’t realised that the whole song will make you move by this point!?). The drum sound (well, all of the production) is  massive.

I really despise mega-generic terms such as World Music, but if it has to be put in this section in HMV, then this is ‘World Music’ at its finest.
