Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets

What a discovery this song was. I have no idea who Ellie Goulding is really apart from today after a bit of research and discovered that she is one of our own (4 ‘o’s’) homegrown British artists. She also played on Jools Holland recently which I thought was an impressive performance.

So…now to introduce my fave bit of the song and fittingly to introduce this blog – sharing my favourite bits of songs, the bits that you can’t wait to hear and which you keep rewinding so that you can hear them over and over again:

Under the Sheets starts at the build-up from 2:22 with the drums, then a harmony is added…and then all the members of the band hauntingly chant the chorus (2:42), followed then by a sneak preview of how the bridge (at 00:48 with an incredible drum breakdown) and chorus vocals harmonise together well (if you’re lost I’m now at 2:50 when the drummer begins his break-down) and then finally the incredibly catchy chorus re-enters to finish the song. BUT, one other great touch is a beautiful rising glissando in her voice at 3:17 which drops down to harmonise in the background. Brilliant. One of my songs of the year.
